Committee Members Advanced Revenue Measure Through Joint Committee Meeting
MILWAUKEE, WI – Today, in a special joint hybrid meeting of the Committees on Finance and Personnel, committee members advanced a resolution to enable an update to the current countywide sales tax and avert a looming fiscal cliff. In a statement released after the vote, County Executive David Crowley praised committee members’ commitment to securing the future of Milwaukee County:
“Today, Milwaukee County is one step closer to overcoming one of the toughest obstacles on our path to achieving race and health equity. After years of advocacy, we’ve been given a tool to avert a looming financial disaster that threatens services and quality of life throughout the county.
“We all share a vision of Milwaukee County where expanding programs making a difference in our neighborhoods, like youth services and housing services, are a possibility each year.
“We all strive for a future where we can make necessary investments to preserve the gems, like our world-class parks system, that make our region unique.
“And, with our stated goal of achieving race and health equity in mind, we all envision a future where health outcomes in our community aren’t determined by your race or where you live.
“Thank you to committee members for sending a clear signal today that averting a fiscal cliff is critical to improving quality of life for all county residents and accomplishing our vision of a healthier, safer Milwaukee County for all.”
