Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin Health Network: Announces plans for community hospital, primary care clinic in Sheboygan

SHEBOYGAN, WIS. (Aug. 22, 2023) – The Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin health network announced today plans to build a community hospital and attached medical office building at the intersection of Taylor Drive and Saemann Avenue in Sheboygan’s growing health care corridor.

The 165,000-square-foot, four-story facility is expected to feature a 10-bed community hospital, 10-bed emergency department, imaging services (including X-ray, fluoroscopy, ultrasound and CT rooms with potential for MRI imaging), four operating rooms and outpatient clinical offices with exam and treatment rooms. Plans for the project were approved by the Sheboygan Planning Commission in July.

“Our presence in the Sheboygan community aligns with our continued investment and commitment to provide access to academic medicine to the people of the diverse communities we serve,” said Cathy Jacobson, president & CEO of Froedtert Health. “This facility is the next step in our northern expansion, complementing our acquisition of Froedtert Holy Family Memorial Hospital in Manitowoc, Wis. and our recent partnership with 11 primary care providers who have been practicing in the Sheboygan area for many years.”

Construction and architectural partners for the project have not yet been announced.

Because the health network is still undergoing planning for Sheboygan and Manitowoc, timing for the project is not yet available.

When it does open, the facility is expected to employ about 300 full- and part-time staff. The vision for the facility is for it to be a licensed, accredited acute-care hospital, part of the Froedtert & MCW health network. The facility is anticipated to follow the health network’s quality protocols and connect to its electronic health records system to ensure coordination of care.

In spring 2024, the health network intends to open Froedtert Sheboygan South Taylor Clinic, located at 3736 S. Taylor Drive in Sheboygan. The 7,000-square-foot space will offer primary care, imaging and lab services. Froedtert Sheboygan North Taylor Clinic, which opened in summer 2023, is expected to remain open after the Froedtert Sheboygan South Clinic and the community hospital open.
