Xcel Energy: Karl Hoesly to lead Xcel Energy-Wisconsin & Michigan

EAU CLAIRE, Wis.-(Nov. 17, 2022) – Xcel Energy is pleased to announce that Karl Hoesly will succeed Mark Stoering as the next president for Xcel Energy-Wisconsin and Michigan beginning Dec. 1, 2022.

Hoesly has worked for Xcel Energy for 15 years and currently serves as the regional vice president for Rates and Regulatory Affairs, a position he has held since 2018. In this role, he provides overall direction and leadership of Xcel Energy’s regulatory affairs function in Wisconsin and Michigan. He is also part of the senior management team that develops the company’s strategy and policies in the regulatory, legislative and customer service areas. Hoesly was previously manager of Regulatory Affairs. 

“Karl has been an outstanding leader for us and the communities we serve in Wisconsin and Michigan for many years,” said Bob Frenzel, chairman, president and CEO for Xcel Energy. “He brings more than two decades of experience to the role and will play an essential function in continuing the jurisdiction’s support for new programs which enhance the customer experience and help us achieve our goal of carbon-free energy by 2050.”

Prior to joining Xcel Energy in 2007, Hoesly held a variety of positions with increasing responsibilities in the areas of rates, finance, and regulatory affairs at Integrys Energy Company in Green Bay. 

“Karl will continue to play a key role in advancing our vision and delivering customer solutions, all while working to keep customer bills low,” said Brett C. Carter, executive vice president, utilities group president and chief customer officer for Xcel Energy. “He has a deep connection to our communities and has a history of commitment to their prosperity, from helping launch our first at-home EV charging program, to playing a key role in establishing the first Wisconsin economic development rates which contribute to job growth and business development in the state.”

Hoesly takes over the position that is being vacated by Mark Stoering, who is retiring after 33 years with Xcel Energy.

Hoesly, a native of Granton, Wis. received his Bachelor of Arts degree in finance and economics from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and has completed several post-graduate courses in marketing, business administration and management at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. He is active in several civic and trade organizations including the United Way, Red Cross, and Wisconsin Public Utility Institute, Wisconsin Utilities Association, and is also a member of the Utilities Credit Union board of directors. 

He lives in Eau Claire, Wis., with his wife and three sons.
