MADISON, Wis.—Sept. 14, 2022- WPS Health Solutions grants its “WPS Diversity in Insurance” scholarship to five Madison College students currently enrolled in the Risk Management and Insurance Program at Madison College.
This year marks the third year WPS Charitable Foundation has funded students with full scholarships of more than $5,600 each. The scholarships support underrepresented students as they pursue education in the insurance field through Madison College. In addition to the financial support, programmatic support includes networking and mentorship opportunities and designated internships at WPS Health Solutions.
The Urban League of Greater Madison partnered with Madison College to enroll students in the 35-credit diploma program. The program teaches the basics of the insurance industry and its products and includes an internship before graduation.
“It’s our pleasure to partner with Madison College and The Urban League of Greater Madison to support the career goals of traditionally underrepresented students in insurance fields. We are committed to the success of the scholarship recipients and are excited to see their passion for learning,” said Natalie Isensee, WPS’ Manager of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. “The scholarship is intended to help diversify the pipeline of talent while building authentic relationships with community organizations.”
Angeline Mboutngam is a previous recipient of the WPS Diversity in Insurance scholarship and completed an internship with the WPS Enterprise Security team in August. Angeline shared, “This internship was a dream come true because I was taking prerequisite classes toward my master’s in cybersecurity, but I had to drop out due to having reached the limit of my school loans, and I didn’t qualify for financial aid anymore. To my amazement, the Risk Management and Insurance program had a component of cybersecurity, and I finally had some hope that this could be my chance to finish the program and apply the new knowledge to an enterprise environment. My gratitude for this scholarship and internship opportunity keeps me smiling every day because I didn’t think it was a possibility.”

The WPS Charitable Foundation was formed in 1986 to honor WPS’ first president, Ray Koenig. The Foundation is a nonprofit charitable organization that focuses on enhancing the communities we call home by supporting organizations focused on health and wellness, especially of women and children, seniors, military and veterans, and underserved populations.
