Quartz: Quartz Medicare Advantage HMO plans receive 5-star designation for the 16th time

MADISON, Wis. – Quartz today announced Quartz Medicare Advantage (HMO) plans have been awarded the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) highest ranking, an overall 5 out of 5 Stars. This is the 16th time Quartz’s combined Medicare Advantage plans have received this distinction. Quartz has achieved a 5-Star Rating more times than any available Medicare Advantage (HMO) plan in the Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, and Minnesota region.

Every year, Medicare evaluates plans based on a 5-Star Rating system and determines which plans will receive a 5-Star Rating by monitoring performance in several categories, including: how often members get and have access to screenings, vaccines, and physical exams, how often those with chronic conditions get tests and treatments to help manage their conditions, and member experience ratings, complaints, and customer service.

“National ratings of health plans are an important tool for helping consumers make informed decisions about their health insurance coverage,” said Dr. Mark Selna, president, and CEO, Quartz. “Receiving Medicare’s highest rating for the 16th time demonstrates once again that Quartz customers can be confident they are selecting an outstanding Medicare Advantage plan to meet their health insurance needs.”

The CMS 5-Star designation is one of multiple recent national ratings of health plans in which Quartz continues to lead in its service area. The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) also recently released their 2022 Health Plan Ratings, in which Quartz plans were consistently rated among the highest scores awarded to any health plan in the Quartz service region.

In NCQA’s commercial Health Plan Ratings 2022, Quartz Health Benefit Plans Corporation received a rating of 4.5 out of 5-Stars for its commercial product, the highest rating awarded to any health plan in Wisconsin. In NCQA’s Medicare Health Plan Ratings 2022, Quartz Health Plan Corporation also received a 4.5-Star Rating for its Medicare product, available in Wisconsin and Iowa. Quartz Health Plan MN Corporation also received a 4.5-Star Rating for its Medicare product—again the highest rating awarded by NCQA to any health plan in Minnesota.

“I’m extremely proud that Quartz has once again demonstrated that we provide our customers the top quality health insurance plans available in our area,” Selna added. “It’s our commitment to putting our members at the center of everything we do that allows us to achieve these remarkable results, year after year. And by partnering with exceptional health systems, we ensure that our mutual customers get the excellent care they deserve.”

CMS reviews hundreds of health plans offering both Part C (medical) and Part D (pharmacy) benefits, measuring the quality of the services provided. The Star Ratings are assessed each year and may change from one year to the next. Star Ratings were received for Quartz Medicare Advantage plans H5262 (IL/WI/IA) and Quartz Medicare Advantage plans H9834 (MN). More information about the 5-Star Rating system is available on Medicare’s website at medicare.gov.

NCQA ratings are based on three types of quality measures: measures of clinical quality from NCQA’s Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS®2) and Health Outcome Survey (HOS); measures of patient experience using the Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS®3); and results from NCQA’s review of a health plan’s health quality processes (NCQA Accreditation).
