UW-Green Bay: Theatre on the Bay now auditioning for Escanaba in Da Moonlight

Marinette, Wis.—Theatre on the Bay returns to live performances this fall and is currently auditioning for Escanaba in Da Moonlight, a comedy written by Jeff Daniels about hunting and hunting traditions, set in the Escanaba, Michigan area.

Auditions are offered Monday and Tuesday, August 30 and 31, from 5-7 p.m. at UW-Green Bay, Marinette Campus, Theatre Building Room T-133 Dance Studio. Interested actors are asked to sign-up for an audition time at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090545adac2aa6f85-escanaba by preparing a monologue for their audition. A cold read of a selection from the script may also be required.

Evening and matinee performances for Escanaba in Da Moonlight will take place Thursday through Sunday, November 4-7. The show will be directed by Patrick Mines.

Here’s a summary of the needed cast of characters:

ALBERT SOADY – (50s-60s) – Lead role – M – Patriarch of the SOADY family. Quite the storyteller and a protector of camp traditions and history.  Often plays peacemaker for his sons.

REUBEN SOADY – (early to mid 30’s) – Lead Role – M – Eldest son of Albert.  Has never bagged a deer and is convinced he is cursed because of it. The more thoughtful and sensitive of the brothers. Feels he must break from tradition to break the curse.

REMNAR SOADY – (mid 20s – mid 30s) – Lead Role – M – The younger song of Albert. Bit of a hot head, often coming to blows with his brother. A traditionalist like his father, he does not like the direction Reuben is trying to take the camp.

JIMMER NEGAMANEE – (ageless) – M – Lead Role – Friend of the Soadys. An excitable but pleasant and agreeable person, Jimmer was once abducted by aliens, and as such has an odd way about him.

RANGER TOM TREADO – (mid 20s – mid 40s) – M – Supporting Role – A DNR officer originally hailing from Detroit. Friendly, but a bit out of sorts due to a strange encounter of his own.

WOLF MOON DANCE SOADY – (30s) – F – Supporting Role – The Native American wife of Reuben. Dreamlike in appearance. She is very supportive of her husband and does her best to help with his problem using the traditions of her people.
