Dörr Hotel: Opens in Door County

Sister Bay, WI– The Dörr Hotel in Sister Bay, Wisconsin officially opened today.  The 47-room property is the area’s first newly built hotel in almost 20 years. Featuring a modern, Nordic design aesthetic, the cobalt blue structure offers 45 Bay of Green Bay lakeview rooms with balconies and a team of dedicated guest experience hosts who will design Door County touring itineraries.

“We’re thrilled to be open, and we look forward to welcoming guests to the area’s first contemporary focused hotel,” said Christopher Schmeltz, principal owner of The Dörr Hotel.  Working with Chicago-based Aria Group Architects on the interiors and Hobart-based Bayland Builders, The Dörr’s design was inspired by the area’s Scandinavian roots.  The hotel embodies a sense of Hygge, a Danish term referring to coziness and contentment, and this is reflected in the soothing interiors and open living room that makes up the heart of the hotel.

The living room’s focal point is a dramatic dark gray glazed Venetian plaster fireplace flanked by two cutouts filled with logs.  Two-story high floor to ceiling windows, cedar beams, a cozy seating area surrounding the fireplace and an intimate bar area create a convivial setting for enjoying a complimentary breakfast snack or a late day glass of wine or beer. Small plates are served in the evening and can be enjoyed inside or outside. A grassy outdoor space features a fire pit with seating.

Guest rooms, including suites, are located on the first, third and fourth floors and feature white shiplap walls, natural oak, custom built furnishings and black tile and white quartz bathrooms.  Forty-five of the rooms offer outdoor balconies with patio furniture. All rooms are equipped with a 50-inch flat screen SMART TV, Bluetooth speakers, Keurig coffee machines, glass front refrigerators and gray cotton bathrobes.   Each of the nine fourth floor suites feature a cathedral ceiling, and a fireplace with The Dörr Suite offering a kitchenette.

The Dörr will offer a dedicated Director of Guest Experiences and a team of hosts who will serve as area ambassadors and be available to customize each guest’s stay and create personalized year-round tours.

Recreation opportunities abound in the Door County area.  The hotel will provide a limited number of house bicycles, tennis and pickle ball equipment, snowshoes, walking poles and a selection of beach chairs for guest’s complimentary use.
