Consolidated Construction, Allie Family Companies: Break ground on River North apartments in Manitowoc

(October 14, 2021) Manitowoc, Wis. – Consolidated Construction Co., Inc., a full-service design/build contractor based in Appleton, and the Allie Family Companies ushered in a sea change for downtown Manitowoc Wednesday when they broke ground for River North Apartments, a multi-story apartment community in the River Point District.

These well-appointed spaces are located in the heart of Manitowoc’s River Point District, on the former site of the Canadian National Railyard. River Point is an extension of historic downtown Manitowoc, offering easy access to nearby shopping, dining, museums, breweries, trails and more. Because of its unique location on a peninsula, nearly every apartment at River North will have panoramic views of Lake Michigan or the Manitowoc River, no matter which direction it faces.

“This has been a project in the sights of community leaders for a long time,” noted Jamie Zastrow, executive director of Progress Lakeshore, an economic development and business advocacy agency in Manitowoc. “It demonstrates that great things take time, and persistence is worth it. This project will change the city skyline for Manitowoc and enhance the access to our priceless waterfront.”

River North’s 87 uniquely designed homes range from micro apartments to three bedrooms offering from 560- to 1,376-square-feet of living space featuring elegant wood-style flooring, energy efficient LED lighting, and nine-foot ceilings. Kitchens feature premium stainless-steel appliances, granite counter tops, large pantries, and abundant storage space. Residents can access large common areas, a private fitness center, and an elevated patio overlooking the Manitowoc River, and most will enjoy heated underground parking.

“This is going to be a transformative project for the City of Manitowoc,” said Tim Rinn, Director of Assisted and Living Communities for Consolidated Construction. “This is the first substantial apartment community to be located in the Downtown district, and soon there will be almost 200 new people living, working and supporting businesses in this area.”

Dignitaries in attendance at the groundbreaking included Manitowoc Mayor Justin Nickels; developers Peter and Alex Allie from Allie Family Companies; Sam Rikkers, COO and Deputy Secretary of the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp.; along with representatives of Progress Lakeshore, the Manitowoc Chamber of Commerce, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Abacus Architects is the architect of record. Park Regency Management is the property manager. The target date for substantial completion is in 12 months.
