Blessings in a Backpack: Opens offices in Waukesha

Milwaukee, Wis. – January 15, 2021 – Blessings in a Backpack of Waukesha County has opened offices at 2010 Springdale Road, Waukesha, Wis. 53186, and is housed next to Habitat for Humanity’s administrative offices. This is the first physical location for the nonprofit that provides food on the weekends for school children across America who might otherwise go hungry.

The Waukesha affiliate was recently named the fifth national chapter after eight years of strong growth. Local success has led to naming Nancy Major, a proven leader in nonprofit executive management roles, as managing director.

Major said, “This is a thrilling announcement as it is the first official office location for Blessings in a Backpack of Waukesha County. I look forward to growing our footprint and services throughout the region. We are grateful to Mike Crowley and Habitat for Humanity for their generosity and kindness in providing this office space for us. This partnership will allow for future collaboration at many levels.”

The new office location gives Blessings in a Backpack a physical presence in the heart of its service area and will provide a much-needed place for meeting with volunteers, donors, and board members. Blessings community outreach includes memberships with the Independent Business Association of Wisconsin, Greater Brookfield Chamber of Commerce, and Waukesha County Business Alliance (WCBA). In 2020, the chapter was named the “Small Nonprofit of the Year” by the WCBA.

Michael Crowley, CEO of Habitat for Humanity Waukesha County said, “We are happy to help other nonprofits by paying it forward. Doing what we can to help lift and strengthen others and organizations is important to us. Blessings in a Backpack serves a critical need in our community, providing meals for thousands of children every week, and we are proud to share our office space.”

Blessings in a Backpack mobilizes communities, individuals and resources to provide food on the weekends for school children across America who might otherwise go hungry. The Waukesha County Blessings in a Backpack chapter was founded in 2012 to bring this mission to life in our own backyard. We are a local chapter of the national organization—which serves over 87,000 kids in over 1,090 locations, spread throughout 45 states and the District of Columbia.

The organization holds a 4-star rating with Charity Navigator, the highest score possible, and is recognized as a Platinum-level rated nonprofit through GuideStar, the highest designation awarded.
