Wisconsin Hospital Association: Statement on COVID-19 hospital funding

The following statement regarding today’s announcement of $40 million in aid to the state’s hospitals can be attributed to WHA President and CEO Eric Borgerding:

“Wisconsin’s hospitals and health systems answered the call for their communities and took all necessary and requested actions to prepare for the COVID-19 pandemic. These efforts included following federal government directives to stop providing non-emergency services and procedures in order to conserve resources and increase capacity for predicted surges of COVID-19 patients. However, doing so resulted in billions of dollars in revenue losses for Wisconsin’s hospitals and health systems statewide.

“Today’s announcement from Governor Evers is very welcome news as hospitals continue recovering from the financial impacts of COVID-19. We appreciate this assistance and his recognition of the ongoing challenges facing hospitals and health systems across the state. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with Governor Evers, his administration and state and federal policymakers to address the pandemic while ensuring our hospitals and health systems can resume addressing the broader health care needs of Wisconsin patients and families.”
