The Wisconsin Library Association: Announces new Board of Director Chairman – Sherry Machones

(Madison, WI) – The Wisconsin Library Association (WLA) is proud to announce Sherry Machones’ appointment as Chairman of the Board of Directors.

Sherry is the Director for the Northern Waters Library Service, headquartered in Ashland, Wisconsin, and is an Inclusive Services Consultant for the Wisconsin Valley Library Service. In 2012, she was chosen as a 2012 ALA Emerging Leader sponsored by the Library Leadership and Management Association and received the Alumni Awareness Award from the University of Wisconsin-Rock County that same year.
She received her MLIS from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 2008.

“I am excited and honored to be stepping into this position at such an amazing time of growth for WLA,” Sherry stated about her upcoming role. “WLA has been an integral part of my professional development, and I am thrilled to give back to our community in this way.”

Sherry has held many leadership positions in the library profession, serving on WLA’s Board of Directors, Finance, and Library Development and Legislative Committees; WLA Councilor to the American Library Association; and Wisconsin Small Libraries Section Chair and Director at Large. Statewide service includes Chairing the System and Resource Library Administrators’ Association of Wisconsin and serving on many of the committees of the Public Library System Redesign Project. Her service nationally includes work in ALA’s Association of Specialized, Government, and Cooperative Library Agencies as the current President, and she has served on numerous committees, including the Stonewall Book Award. She served passionately for many years as a Rainbow Roundtable (formerly GLBT Roundtable) Board
member, Membership Chair, and mentor.
