De Pere, Wis.: With finances tight amid much uncertainty these days, both students and parents are now seriously considering what kind of financial aid package a school can offer.
St. Norbert College has been nationally recognized as one of the best schools in the country for financial aid by LendEDU. In the report, St. Norbert College’s total financial aid score ranked 46 in the country and No. 1 in Wisconsin.
“The financial aid strategy at St. Norbert College is based on data analytics and the careful alignment of our institutional values and priorities with the needs, hopes and aspirations of our students and their families,” said St. Norbert College President Brian Bruess. “This national recognition affirms our long-standing commitment and practice of providing access to a high quality residential liberal arts education rooted in our Catholic, Norbertine and Liberal Arts traditions.”
Each year, LendEDU uses the most up-to-date financial aid data to rank which colleges provide the most financial aid to their students. Schools are ranked on a total score that factors in what they offer in need-based aid, non-need-based aid and international aid. Ninety-seven percent of St. Norbert students receive financial aid.
Last month, the college learned that its default rate is at 1 percent, one of the lowest default rates in the country. Low rates indicate an institution’s graduates are securing jobs with salaries high enough to allow them to repay their student loans. The nationwide federal student loan default rate is 9.7 percent, according to the U.S. Department of Education.
“Our extremely low loan default rate is a reflection of our commitment to managing affordability issues such as keeping tuition down and offering competitive institutional financial aid,” said Bruess. “We also know that a low default rate means our students graduate on time, secure meaningful employment and value their St. Norbert education,” Bruess added.
