LDF business development corporation: Hires first corporate retail director

LAC du FLAMBEAU, Wis.—JANUARY 22, 2020—The Lac du Flambeau Business Development
Corporation, the non-gaming business development arm of the Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior
Chippewa, today announced the hiring of its first Corporate Retail Director, Dan Bonavia.
“Dan has an impressive record of delivering profitability and operational efficiency in retail
environments,” LDF BDC Board President Nicole Chapman-Reynolds says. “His experience in retail
acquisitions fits well with our strategic plan of bringing more retail choices to Lac du Flambeau.”
Bonavia will lead development efforts to identify and expand retail operations within Lac du Flambeau.
Building on the momentum of the new retail center, scheduled to open mid-summer 2020 and replace
the existing LDF Country Market, Bonavia will be responsible for all aspects of store operations. These
include creating an exceptional shopping experience for customers and a positive, empowering working
environment for employees.
“Dan’s career shows he has all the tools needed to ensure our new retail center provides shoppers with
value, quality and a great experience,” LDF Tribal President Joseph Wildcat Sr. says.
The new retail structure will house all existing retail offers: grocery, gas, smoke shop, deli, and
convenience. It will provide enhanced bakery with larger meat and produce selections. The deli
presentation will provide larger selections of healthy snacks, homemade and healthy meal options, and
room for customers to enjoy a quick lunch by having access to seating. In addition to an improved
shopping experience, shoppers can also enjoy expanded hours, parking and fueling stations.
“We’re looking forward to Dan bringing all his talent and experience to identifying and expanding retail
choices in Lac du Flambeau as part of the overall BDC business development strategy,” President
Wildcat adds.
The new retail facility is but one area of the overall retail site plan. Other opportunities are envisioned
for future growth and expansion. Bonavia sees this as a tremendous opportunity to help deliver on the
LDF BDC mission of generating revenue and jobs.
“With a new retail center set to open mid-summer 2020 and a strategic plan to bring more retail to Lac
du Flambeau, I’m thrilled to be part of a team looking to build a successful retail operation,” Bonavia
says. “The strategic plan for expanding retail choices in Lac du Flambeau presents an opportunity to
contribute to the BDC mission of generating revenue and jobs for the Tribe and its Membership, while
positively impacting economic growth to benefit the entire region.”
