Hearthstone Historic House: Receives award from the Wisconsin Historical Society

Appleton, WI. – The Wisconsin Historical Society is excited to announce that the Hearthstone Historic House is the recipient of the 2020 Museum Exhibit Award (budget less than $5,000) for their temporary exhibit, “Kitty’s Wedding: You’re Invited – the 130th Anniversary of Kitty Rogers.”

“The Hearthstone Historic House did a great job of recreating the wedding of Kitty Rogers by relying on newspaper accounts of the day, which chronicled every detail,” said Christian Overland, Ruth and Hartley Barker Director & CEO of the Wisconsin Historical Society. “Their curators and volunteers meticulously crafted decorations and what the residence looked like the day of her wedding.”

Using the museum’s collections and re-created decorations, Hearthstone Historic House Museum tells the story of one wedding from the engagement, through the ceremony, to the reception. By recounting that story, the exhibit shares a local story of love and wedding traditions.

The exhibition includes an on-going, on-line synopsis that encapsulates the exhibit script and provides stunning photographic visuals. The on-line portion of the exhibit appeals to those who may not have had the opportunity to visit the museum in person during the duration of the exhibit.

Each year, the Wisconsin Historical Society’s governing Board of Curators recognizes individuals and organizations for meritorious work in areas relating to the Society’s mission.  The Board of Curators is made up of thirty-seven elected and appointed members from across the state.
