APPLETON, Wis. (January 3, 2020) – The Fox Cities Chamber’s monthly educational program, Business Breakfast Bytes, will provide resources and information for small businesses protect their information at the upcoming January session. According to the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection’s Bureau of Consumer Protection, “Businesses are also harmed by identity theft, costing them not only money, but sometimes their reputation as well”. One of the biggest challenges in this area is the continued technological advancements – almost every business is online in some form. This opens up businesses to the risk of infiltration from data security breaches, phishing emails, and more. This presentation will cover ways to prevent this from happening as well as what to do if your business is faced with a breach.

Jeff Kersten, Agency Liaison for the Bureau of Consumer Protection/Division of Trade & Consumer Protection through the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection, will lead the session.

“All businesses are susceptible to cyber-attacks. This session will provide attendees with information on the latest trends including CEO fraud, ransomware, and data security,” shared Kersten. “The WI Bureau of Consumer Protection will also provide identity theft prevention training that can be used both professionally and personally.”
