Sun Badger Solar: Redeemer Lutheran Church goes solar as part of greening efforts

Milwaukee, WI. – Wisconsin-based Sun Badger Solar, a Midwest solar residential and commercial developer servicing projects in Wisconsin, Illinois, and Minnesota is proud to announce a commercial installation at Milwaukee’s Redeemer Lutheran Church. Once completed, the solar power is projected to offset electricity up to 53 percent and will be used to power the day-to-day operations of the church including lighting and technology in occupied spaces, kitchen operations and facilities.  The installation includes PV panels to be mounted on the southern edge of the highest point of the rooftop and will span approximately 1,000 square feet.

Redeemer Lutheran Church has been a staple of the Milwaukee community, adjacent to Marquette University, for more than 100 years and is in the process of several greening projects – already active initiatives include a rooftop green garden with honeybees and a rainwater collection system for non-potable uses.

“We are a church answering the call to take care of the earth God created us by changing the face of what a typical church looks like through greening initiatives and programs,” said Rev. Dr. Lisa Bates-Froiland, “Sun Badger Solar was the perfect partner to help move the vision to serve the Milwaukee community as best we can.”

Redeemer Church is in a community marked by both poverty and promise; an active supporter of the neighborhood with programs such as the free Noon Run Lunch served weekly, Sunday-Friday, in partnership with Marquette Campus Ministry student volunteers. Redeemer is also home to the Ziedler Center for Public Discussion, a nonprofit dedicated to bridging differences through facilitated conversation.

“The Redeemer Church installation is a great stage to showcase how solar power can serve a community through ongoing revitalization and new development, ultimately bringing cost savings and cleaner energy,” said Kris Sipe, Chief Operating Officer, Sun Badger Solar, “the solar display will be an excellent reminder of what can happen when a community comes together and reaches for a greater good.”

The project is just the latest in a series of installations for Sun Badger Solar in the Midwest, with an interest in both residential and solar projects surging as the Solar Investment Tax Credit is scheduled to decrease at the end of the year. Through 2019, both Illinois and Wisconsin have individual incentives, and commercial projects qualify for 100% depreciation in the first year. For more information, visit www.SunBadger.com
