Americans for Prosperity Wisconsin: Applauds Gov. Evers for ending Miller Park perk

Madison, Wis. – Americans for Prosperity-Wisconsin (AFP-WI) on Thursday applauded Governor Evers for signing into law Assembly Bill 73, which ends a more than twenty-year-old sales tax in southeast Wisconsin that was implemented to subsidize a professional sports stadium. AFP-WI has long opposed government subsidies to private companies and other forms of corporate welfare.

AFP-WI State Director Eric Bott issued the following statement:

“Any day we can collectively agree to eliminate an entire tax for citizens is a win for Wisconsin. Taxpayers in our state have been on the hook for far too long paying this additional sales tax to subsidize a stadium. It is not the role of government to pick winners and losers. AB 73 is a necessary first step toward ending taxpayer handouts to businesses, including sports teams, in Wisconsin. AFP-WI thanks Representative Wittke and Senators Wanggaard and Carpenter for authoring this needed legislation and Governor Evers for signing it into law.”
