Annual awards recognize consumer education efforts

Madison – The Wisconsin Bankers Foundation recently honored banks and individual bankers from around the state for their efforts in promoting financial literacy to thousands of Wisconsin’s consumers. The Foundation presented these bankers and institutions with Excellence in Financial Education awards during a special breakfast event at the Wisconsin Bankers Association LEAD360 Conference.

From June 2017 through May 2018, nearly 500 bankers from across the state reported over 1,600 personal finance presentations. Those volunteer bankers educated nearly 39,500 consumers of all ages about the importance of saving and budgeting, how to use credit responsibly, the ins and outs of obtaining a home mortgage or car loan, and many more financial topics. In the month of April alone, in conjunction with Teach Children to Save Day, bankers from over 30 institutions reported nearly 300 presentations that reached nearly 9,000 students.

The awards event, sponsored by the Foundation, specifically recognized 29 banks and 13 individual bankers for their achievements. In addition, the WBF distributed certificates of recognition to 98 bankers who gave their time and talent back to the community through at least five financial education presentations.

The EFE Award recipients recognized for the most prestigious awards this year are:

Financial Education Innovation Award
First Bank Financial Centre, Oconomowoc

Financial Literacy Banker of the Year Award
Monica Walk, FVSBank, Fond du Lac

Financial Literacy Banker Award
Cynthia Roeck, Cleveland State Bank

“Consumer education is an important part of banking, no matter what the banker’s role is at their institution,” said Foundation Board Chair Rose Oswald Poels, WBA president and CEO. “We commend these bankers for their dedication and commitment to improving financial education not only for the benefit of individual consumers, but also the community as a whole.”
