The State of Wisconsin Department of Transportation awarded Hoffman Construction the IH-94 North South frontage roads at the Hwy 11 interchange in front of the future Foxconn manufacturing facility in Racine County. The 6.5 mile, $12,697,000 project consists of reconstruction of the east and west frontage roads to accommodate the IH-94 North South widening project.
Six different project IDs were combined and bid as one project – consisting of 240,000 cubic yards of excavation, 240,000 tons of aggregate base and over 50,000 tons of asphalt. The original contract completion date was Nov 18, 2018; however, due to the upcoming Foxconn manufacturing facility located adjacent to the project, the completion date was changed by addendum to June 1, 2018. “We have a plan” states Brian Aebly, Vice President Operations at Hoffman Construction. “What would normally be a one year job, the DOT decided to accelerate it as part of the public works to facilitate Foxconn. Our equipment, our people and subcontractors are ready to accept the challenge”. A combination of off road trucks and on road dump trucks with recycle crushing existing pavements is planned to meet the schedule.
Work is scheduled to begin January 8, 2018 with clearing and grubbing, traffic control and erosion control. “Coordination with all the utility relocation in progress will be another challenge in addition to the schedule” states James Hoffman, President of Hoffman Construction. The Department of Transportation is planning to continue to let public work projects in the area to be ready for the Foxconn manufacturing facility.
Hoffman Construction is excited to contribute to the state’s largest construction project – the public and private work for the Foxconn manufacturing facility. “Foxconn coming to Wisconsin resembles when Henry Ford picked Detroit for the first automotive manufacturing facility. We look forward in utilizing Hoffman Construction’s fleet of scrapers, dozers and haul trucks and especially our biggest asset, our people, to build the projects” states James Hoffman. Hoffman Construction celebrated 100 years in the highway construction and site grading business in 2016.
