Green Bay, Wisconsin – Breakthrough®Fuel, an innovative leader in the field of transportation energy management, is betting on automated trucking technology and what it sees as a major shift in defining more effective ways for the shipping industry to transport goods.

This spring, Wisconsin-based Breakthrough®Fuel and partner, U.S. Venture, joined a group of investors in a $60 million Series B funding round for Peloton Technology of Mountain View, California. The Silicon Valley-based startup is using the funds to further develop its platooning system, which is set to roll out on a trial basis with several Fortune 500 companies in the next year.

Peloton is introducing the world’s first two-truck, driver-assisted platooning system. Platooning is technology that allows a pair of semi-trucks to electronically connect, or couple, using Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) communications so that acceleration and braking happen in unison. Peloton says its platooning system is proven to provide diesel fuel savings of at least 7 percent. Furthermore, the system, which includes forward-looking cameras and radar-based collision prevention, is likely to reduce accidents.

“Transportation is evolving quickly, and the automated technology that Peloton is developing will bring about plenty of positive change”, says Breakthrough®Fuel founder and CEO, Craig Dickman. “It’s exciting that our company here in Wisconsin has discovered a new way to invest in the future of the industry by connecting and working with another trailblazing organization. We are joining forces with Silicon Valley to change transportation for the better.”

Dickman adds that Peloton and Breakthrough®Fuel share the mission of helping shippers reduce and accurately manage their fuel costs while challenging the status quo in a constant search for ways to improve supply chain efficiencies.
