New numbers from Airbnb shows its home sharing services is gaining popularity in rural Wisconsin.
The San Francisco-based company says that in 2016, 43,000 guests stayed in a rural Wisconsin home found through its system — representing a 149 percent growth year-over-year.
There are 1,100 active Airbnb hosts in rural parts of Wisconsin. The average age for these renters is 49 years; the typical earnings they receive from renting through Airbnb is about $4,500.
And rural Wisconsin hosts earned over $5 million in total last year.
For this report, Airbnb used the same definition of “rural” as the census does.
