Statement from TDA on Robust Transportation Dialogue

Transportation Development Association Executive Director Craig Thompson released the following statement on the proposed 2017-2019 transportation budget:

“We are pleased that the Governor and Legislature have agreed that we need to work toward a long-term, sustainable funding system for Wisconsin’s transportation network. The initial proposal submitted by the DOT on September 15th doesn’t get us there.

“When it comes to transportation funding, Wisconsin has procrastinated for too long. This makes solving this problem difficult, but simply putting it off even longer would be devastating to the state’s economy.

“TDA looks forward to a robust discussion about our transportation priorities. That is what the Just Fix It campaign has been all about. As part of that effort, we are working with local governments and their statewide associations to hold community forums across the state on September 29th in the historic Turnout for Transportation event. These 71 separate forums will provide a platform for everyone from all sectors to join in the conversation from Kenosha to Crandon. “The Assembly Republican leadership has provided a great starting point with important questions that need to be answered. Public hearings by the appropriate standing committees should shed a great deal of light on not only the scope of the challenge but what it may take to place Wisconsin on a sound, sustainable schedule to begin meeting that challenge.”
