Generac Power Systems has announced it is a title sponsor for the 2017 Discover Whitewater Series (DWS): half marathon, half marathon relay and 5K run.  Scheduled for Sept. 17, 2017, the Greater Whitewater Committee (GWC) said that Generac’s sponsorship will help ensure success for the DWS by allowing the race to grow even further.

In efforts to build a stronger community, the GWC uses proceeds from the race to cover all costs. After paying expenses, all remaining income is donated to five local non-profit partners: Working for Whitewater’s Wellness, which envisions Whitewater to be a community where people live longer, happier, healthier lives; Bethel House that provides interim housing for homeless families in Whitewater; University of Wisconsin–Whitewater athletics; the J-Hawk Aquatic Club; and the Whitewater Unified School District. According to the GWC, $104,000 has been distributed to charity over the last four years.

“Generac has a long tradition of supporting the communities where our employees live and work, and we’re proud to support the Discover Whitewater series” said Kelly Davis, manager, Community Relations at Generac. “It brings together so many facets of the Whitewater community and gives Generac the chance to support the event’s five local charity partners.”

The DWS course runs close to Generac’s manufacturing plant on the north end of the Whitewater Business Park. The DWS planning committee said it would work with Generac to encourage their employees to participate in this community wellness activity.

In 2016, the DWS attracted a record number of participants, reaching a total of 771 runners and walkers. The DWS planning committee plans to increase participation even further for the 2017 year.

“Generac is an outstanding corporate citizen of Whitewater, and we are excited to have them involved in the race,” said Jeffery Knight, executive director of the DWS as well as president and CEO of the GWC.
