Both cities, said Understory founder and CEO Alex Kubicek, have a large amount of talent but need to improve the state’s reputation as a place to grow a startup.

— Northwestern Mutual reported it had record revenues of $27.9 billion last year and will pay shareholders dividends totaling $5.6 billion.
The company said the figures reflect people’s desire for “the company’s distinctive approach to financial security,” which takes into account clients’ entire wealth, rather than just looking at their insurance or investment options.
Northwestern Mutual also pointed to its acquisition of online financial planner LearnVest as an example of the company “investing in the future.”
