Omni Resources: Sends 25 team members to “Summer Camp for Geeks”

Wisconsin Dells, Wis. – That Conference, which is billed as the “Summer Camp for Geeks,” will be held August 10th –12th at the Kalahari Resort in Wisconsin Dells. Approximately 1,000 software developers, designers and technology professionals from the upper Midwest (Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, Michigan, Indiana and Iowa) will attend. Over 100 training sessions take place over the course of three days featuring leading industry speakers. They will cover topics vital to today’s technology industry including mobile, web, application development, cloud and user experience design. The event is family-friendly with several training sessions designed specifically for kids.

Twenty-five team members from Omni Resources will attend. “That Conference is the best regional conference of its kind,” said Lisa Knuth, vice president of operational excellence at Omni. “We understand the value that it offers our team in providing a superior professional development opportunity right in our own backyard. Additionally, That Conference helps create a sense of community and synergy with our team members and this falls in line with our company culture.”

Two Omni team members will lead training sessions at That Conference. Matt Schmidt, software engineer, will present a session called “Code a Copter” geared toward teaching 3rd – 5th grade attendees how to fly a toy helicopter using a computer to control it. Matt will give away ten of his helicopters as part of the session. David Berry, software engineer at Omni, will present a session called “Becoming a Lifelong Learner” focusing on creating personal development plans.

Omni Resources will also have a presence as one of the gold level sponsors with a booth at the event. The booth will include an interactive game called “Fans of Fury” that was built from the ground up by the Omni team. The game requires players to wear EEG meditation headsets that measure brain wave activity. The individual’s ability to concentrate and/or meditate will control the speed of fan blades that in turn propel ping pong balls over an opponent’s goal.

In addition to the knowledge attendees will gain at That Conference, there is ample opportunity for fun too. The conference includes a giant game night, a pig roast, networking opportunities and, of course, the Kalahari’s giant indoor water park.
