Bayfield coffee roaster will offer a special blend in honor of the race’s upcoming 20th anniversary

Bayfield, Wisc. – In celebration of the 20th annual Apostle Islands Sled Dog Race, Big Water Coffee Roasters is teaming up with the Bayfield Chamber and Visitor Bureau to release a limited edition blend called the Master Musher Blend. The term musher references the driver of a dogsled team.

This is the first time Big Water Coffee Roasters has created a limited edition blend, but it seemed fitting for such and important milestone, said owner Danielle Ewalt. “When Kelley (Linehan, Marketing and Events Manager for the Bayfield Chamber and Visitor Bureau) reached out to us about creating a special blend, we jumped on board immediately,” said Ewalt, “It felt like a great opportunity to honor the history of the event and also provide a way for people to connect with it on another level.”

“The fact that the Apostle Islands Sled Dog Race is in its twentieth year is really a significant achievement for a regional race. It’s a testament to the dedicated mushers, volunteers and spectators, who come from all over the midwest and often return year after year. We already work with local lodging and restaurants to get people into town through our Voluntourism packages, so we were looking for more ways to connect the race with the Bayfield experience,” said Linehan.

The blend created by Big Water Coffee Roasters is a medium/dark blend, complex and sweet with a slight smokiness. “We think it’s a good fit with the race. It’s bold, exciting and fresh. It’s a great way for people to take a little bit of the excitement of the race home with them,” said Ewalt.

Roasting of the blend will begin on Monday, January 5, once the roastery reopens after the holiday. It will be available for purchase at the cafe, located at 117 Rittenhouse Ave., Bayfield or online at http://www.bigwatercoffee.com. Big Water plans to offer the blend through the end of February.

The Apostle Islands Sled Dog Race will take place in Bayfield, Wisc. on February 7 and 8, 2015. The event is free and open to the public with multiple spectator sites located along the course.
