UW Hospital and Clinics named among top places to work in health care
MADISON – University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics was named to the 2014 list of “150 Great Places to Work in Healthcare,” compiled by Becker’s Healthcare.
Becker’s has published a ‘Great Places” list since 2011, but this is the first year non-provider organizations were included.
To develop the list, the Becker’s editorial team conducted research and evaluated organizations based on their benefits, workplace culture, professional-development opportunities and previous recognition for workplace excellence. Organizations do not and cannot pay for inclusion on the list.
With 8400 employees, UW Hospital and Clinics is one of the largest employers in the area. Becker’s highlighted its staff-retention rate of 90 percent; its recent re-designation as a Magnet hospital; and its seven consecutive years on the Working Mother “100 Best Companies” list. The hospital also provides a generous tuition-reimbursement program for work-related academic study.
“Our staff deserves all the credit for this award. It is because of their willingness to continually improve our workplace with their ideas and feedback that we were able to achieve this accomplishment. We are very proud to offer a number of ways for staff to be part of the process of improving the workplace such as staff rounds, forums, councils, staff meetings, and human-resources listening sessions,” says Donna Katen-Bahensky, hospital president and CEO. “We cannot be the organization we want to be without the robust dedication of everyone who works here and this recognition signifies that we are on the right path.”
The only other Madison-area company to make the list was Epic Systems in Verona.
