UpFront: Lt. gov. says meetings show concern over high, complicated taxes

Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch says her roundtables with taxpayers show two basic concerns.

“Number one, taxes are too high,” Kleefisch tells “UpFront with Mike Gousha,’’ the Sunday show produced in partnership with WisPolitics.com “The other common thread I’m seeing, across geography and across demographics, is that taxes are too complicated.”

Kleefisch rejected the idea of increasing taxes on wealthy Wisconsinites, saying any tax increase without a corresponding decrease would defeat the Walker administration’s goal of creating more jobs in the state.

“We’re in the top 10 among top tax states in the nation,” said Kleefisch. “That’s a really unfortunate place to be in if economic competitiveness is one of your number one goals.”
