Milwaukee Press Club: Next Newsmaker Luncheon to feature new MPS superintendent

The Milwaukee Press Club will present a Newsmaker Luncheon featuring recently appointed Milwaukee Public Schools Superintendent Darienne Driver, on Wednesday, Dec. 17.

The public is invited to attend the event from 11:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Newsroom Pub in downtown Milwaukee at 137 E. Wells St.

Driver, who holds a Ed.D., was appointed superintendent of MPS effective Oct. 1. As superintendent, Driver works with the Milwaukee Board of School Directors and district leadership to improve student achievement; engage in effective and efficient operations that make best use of district resources; and, develop opportunities to increase parental and community involvement.

Driver previously served as acting superintendent of MPS from July 1 until her appointment was made permanent. Driver joined MPS in July 2012 as the district’s first chief innovation officer. Prior to joining MPS, Driver served as deputy chief of empowerment schools for the School District of Philadelphia.

Driver will be interviewed by a panel of Milwaukee journalists.

The Milwaukee Press Club presents the Newsmaker Luncheons to shed light on issues of the day. The public is invited to attend the luncheons. The cost to attend is $18 for MPC members, $23 for non-members, $13 for students. Lunch is included. Seating will be limited.
