Milwaukee Press Club: Newsmaker luncheon to feature new leader of Milwaukee Public Museum

MILWAUKEE – The future of the Milwaukee Public Museum will be the focus of a Milwaukee Press Club Newsmaker Luncheon to be held on Wednesday, June 11, at the Newsroom Pub in downtown Milwaukee, 137 E. Wells St.

Dennis Kois, who became president and chief executive officer of the Milwaukee Public Museum on May 1, will be the featured Newsmaker at the June 11 event.

Kois’ museum career included design work at the Staten Island Institute of Arts & Sciences, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Smithsonian Institution’s Freer Gallery of Art and Arthur M. Sackler Gallery. Kois was an adjunct professor of the graduate program in Museum Studies at George Washington University, teaching design and museum ethics. In Abilene, Texas, he became executive director at the Grace Museum, a community art, science and history museum. Immediately prior to joining the Milwaukee Public Museum, Kois served as executive director of the deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum in Boston, where he led a restructuring of the institution.

Kois is a Whitefish Bay native who holds a bachelor’s degree in museum design from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and a master’s degree in museum studies from New York University. He also participated in the executive leadership program at The Getty Foundation’s Museum Leadership Institute.

Kois will be interviewed by a panel of Milwaukee journalists.

The Milwaukee Press Club presents the Newsmaker Luncheons to shed light on issues of the day. The public is invited to attend the luncheons.
