Cover Crops Field Day – September 3rd, 2014 (Noon-3p)

East Troy, WI – Michael Fields Agricultural Institute, USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and UW Soil Science announced today that they are offering a three hour field day on cover crops on Wednesday, September 3rd, 2014 from noon until 3 pm at Michael Fields Agricultural Institute Research Farm W2857 County Road ES, East Troy, WI (one mile west of the Institute’s Campus).

Those who love to farm know that cover crops are becoming an important part of their farm management plan. Many farmers would love to reap the benefits of cover crops, but the overwhelming wealth of information and the lack of guidance makes it hard to decide which way to turn for help.

This field day will be a dynamic, interactive session led by four experienced teachers ready to answer questions: Greg Igl and Karla Petges with NRCS, Megan Chawner with UW Soil Science and Jim Stute with MFAI. Topics include:
– Cover crop impact on soil quality (includes a soil pit)
– Growing radish in Wisconsin: a Research Update
– Organic quackgrass control
– Michael Fields Ag Institute cover crop screening/ cultural studies

The cost for the field day is $10.

Lunch is included in the fee and 2 hours of CEU credits in Water and Soil Management have been applied for.
