Fond du Lac Metro Rated as Top 10 Metro for Manufacturing Job Growth

The Fond du Lac metro area (Fond du Lac County) has been rated as a top 10 metro for the growth in manufacturing jobs for 2013.

NewGeography has rated the County #10 out of 357 metropolitan areas for manufacturing job growth in 2013. The growth rate in manufacturing jobs was 5.4%. Last year’s ranking was 26th. The closest neighboring metros were Appleton ranking 105th, a drop of 49 places from last year, and Sheboygan ranking 113rd, a gain of 188 spots from last year.

Considering the 199 small metros (150,000 or less in population) ranked, Fond du Lac County ranked 8th, improving 12 spots from last year. Again, the nearest neighboring small metros were Appleton ranking 63rd, a drop of 25 places from last year, and Sheboygan ranking 71st , a gain of 94 spots from last year.

“Fond du Lac County and the east central portion of Wisconsin has a long heritage in manufacturing and is recognized as an advanced manufacturing center”, noted Steve Jenkins, president of the Fond du Lac County Economic Development Corporation. “The rankings in manufacturing job growth continue to show our strength in this sector. Although this is great news, we must also be aware the manufacturing sector is evolving with automation and robotics requiring fewer people to produce. We must continually explore and pursue new opportunities to diversify our economic base.”
