offer Women with a Vision Scholarship

JANESVILLE, WI – Single mothers who currently attend Blackhawk Technical College or plan to attend and study one of 14 fields may be eligible for the Women with a Vision Scholarship supported by the Zonta Club of Janesville, the Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin and the Blackhawk Technical College Foundation.

The scholarship covers all tuition and fees for a school year and is available to Rock County single mothers who have a demonstrated a financial need and completed at least 12 credits of post-secondary education. Applicants also are required to be pursuing a degree in one of the following fields:

Web analyst/Programmer; Fire Science; Medical Lab Technician; Physical Therapy Assistant; Radiography; Health Science; Diagnostic Medical Sonography and Vascular; Nursing; Industrial Engineering Technician; Criminal Justice-Law Enforcement Academy; Welding; Licensed Practical Nursing; CNC Technician; and Pharmacy Technician.

“Blackhawk Technical College has more than 25 scholarships available in addition to an extensive financial aid program to help support our students,” said Kelli Cameron, Director of the Blackhawk Technical College Foundation. “The Women with a Vision Scholarship is a great opportunity for someone who may be juggling family life, work and school.”

The scholarship entitles the recipient to be considered for addition support to cover books, supplies, child care, transportation, mentoring and tutoring. The scholarship also is renewable.

The deadline for the scholarship application is May 30. Applications are available on the Blackhawk Technical College website at http://www.blackhawk.edu/Alumni/BTCFoundation/ScholarshipOpportunities.aspx or at the Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin website at http://www.cfsw.org/scholarships/non-traditional-students/.

Applicants are expected to maintain a grade point average of at least 2.75 on a 4.0 scale and carry at least 12 credits per semester. Applicants must also be residents of the United States and willing to live in or work in Rock County for three years following graduation.

Applicants must complete the application and provide a copy of post-secondary transcripts, two letters of recommendation from non-related adults and an essay not exceeding 400 words as to why you are deserving of the scholarship.

The Women with a Vision Scholarship was established in 2012 by the Zonta Club of Janesville with the goal of helping single mothers gain family sustaining jobs. The program also is co-sponsored by the Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin’s Carol and Norman Aulabaugh Scholarship Fund and the BTC Foundation.
