Xcel Energy: Names new regional government affairs director

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – Matt Pagel recently was named the new director of Regional Government Affairs at Xcel Energy in Madison.

Pagel comes to Xcel Energy with more than 15 years of legislative affairs experience. He most recently worked at the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin as a policy liaison and interim public information officer. From 2006 to 2010, he served as Chief of Staff for Wisconsin State Sen. Pat Kreitlow, and prior to that he was a legislative liaison at the PSCW.

In his new position, Pagel will work with various areas of the company on public policy issues. He will also direct the company’s work on energy policy, environmental issues and a variety of other matters with the Wisconsin and Michigan state legislature.

“Matt brings a great deal of legislative and regulatory experiences that will allow us to enhance our work with elected officials, government affairs staff, business groups and regional organizations,” said Mark Stoering, president and CEO, NSP-Wisconsin, an Xcel Energy company.

Pagel earned a Bachelor of Science degree in political science from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in 1994 and a juris doctorate from the Creighton University School of Law in 1997. He has been a member of the State Bar of Wisconsin since 1997.
