Five-year subcontracts continue partnership with TriWest Healthcare Alliance

MADISON, Wisconsin—September 6, 2013—WPS, Wisconsin’s leading not-for-profit health insurer and top provider of affordable individual health plans, was awarded three new subcontracts on September 4 to administer benefits for nearly half the eligible veterans in America.

As a result of these new subcontracts, a small number of new employees will be hired in WPS’ Wausau office to help with the administrative work.

“This is great news for WPS,” said Brian Brugger, executive vice president of the WPS TRICARE Division. “Our renewed and reinvigorated focus on contracts and business growth is driving this great success.”

The subcontracts are for TriWest Healthcare Alliance’s Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) contracts for the VA Patient-Centered Community Care (VAPCCC) program’s Regions 3, 5, and 6. These regions cover all or portions of 28 states, including Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington, and West Virginia, as well as American Samoa, Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands.

Mike Hamerlik, WPS president and CEO, said, “It is a privilege and an honor to take on this work to help care for our veterans. Our relationship with TriWest is important for our company and valued very much. They are a great partner and I look forward to more collaboration in the future.”
