Wisconsin Potato Recipe Contest Challenges Food Gurus to Redefine an American Summer Classic

Antigo, WI – May 31, 2013 – When people think of summer get-togethers, they think of potato salad – the quintessential summer dish. This year, the Wisconsin Potato and Vegetable Growers Association (WPVGA) is challenging consumers to recreate this summer classic by hosting the Wisconsin Potato-Salad-with-Panache Recipe Contest at www.eatwisconsinpotatoes.com.

Because Wisconsin potatoes are so versatile, they provide passionate cooks with ample opportunities to exercise their creative culinary skills. “Thanks to our recipe contests, over the last couple of years, we’ve met a really creative group of people with culinary flare who create these amazing recipes. They’re a diverse group- from young professionals to retirees – who inspire others to think about food in new ways,” notes Dana Rady, WPVGA’s Director of Promotion, Communication and Consumer Education. “We’d like to see how creative people can be with an American summer favorite – potato salad. Maybe it’s a new take on cobb salad? Adding greens and seafood? A gluten-free salad? Who knows? We’re excited to see what contest entrants come up with.”

One of the most versatile vegetables on the planet, Wisconsin potatoes are low in calories, fat-free, cholesterol-free, gluten-free and are rich in fiber, potassium and calcium.

The winner of the Wisconsin Potato-Salad-with-Panache Recipe Contest will win a $500 gift card from Amazon.com. Second and third place winners will earn $150 and $100 gift cards, respectively, from Pampered Chef. Contest submissions will be shared on the Eat Wisconsin Potatoes Facebook page throughout the contest.

The WPVGA’s Wisconsin Potato-Salad-with-Panache Recipe Contest begins May 31, 2013. Deadline for recipe submission is June 20, 2013. Consumers will also be allowed to vote for their favorite Potato-Salad-with-Panache recipe from June 21 – June 27, 2013. Doing so automatically enters that person’s name into a random drawing for a $100 gift card from Amazon.com.

Winners will be announced July 1, 2013.

The WPVGA is a non-profit organization that represents and promotes potato and vegetable growers across Wisconsin. It currently serves more than 300 members and affiliates. Visit the WPVGA online at www.wisconsinpotatoes.com.
