Wisconsin Innovation Network: Cybersecurity 101: Protect against hack attacks is topic at April 11 WIN-Milwaukee meeting

Making cyberspace more secure from potentially crippling attacks is a rising concern for businesses of all sizes as well as government. Hear from two Wisconsin experts on how they are working to make cyberspace a safer place for you and your business at the Thursday, April 11 meeting of the WIN-Milwaukee chapter.

The luncheon will take place at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, 10499 Innovation Drive, Wauwatosa. Registration and networking begins at 11:30 a.m., lunch at 12 p.m. and the presentation at 12:15 p.m. The cost is $10 for students, $25 for WIN members, Governor’s Business Plan Contest participants and Milwaukee County Research Park tenants, $35 for non-members and included with WIN corporate memberships.

Panelists will include Brooklin Gore, chief operations officer for the Software Assurance Marketplace and senior researcher working on the Open Science Grid project for UW-Madison at the Morgridge Institute for Research; and Dr. Scott Korando, lead architect for the LIGO Identity Management Project, senior researcher for the LIGO Data Grid and member of the advisory committee for the Center for Trustworthy Scientific Cyberinfrastructure. Tom Still of the Tech Council will moderate.

The Wisconsin Security Research Consortium is administered through the Tech Council and is also working with cybersecurity issues.

“As a recent security breach in the Milwaukee academic community demonstrated, organizations need to keep economic espionage and cybersecurity at the forefront of their planning and execution,” said Tom Still, president of the Tech Council.

WIN-Milwaukee meetings are held in cooperation with BizStarts Milwaukee (http://www.bizstartsmilwaukee.com) and sponsored by the UW-Milwaukee and the UWM Research Foundation. WIN is the membership arm of the Tech Council, the independent, non-profit science and technology adviser to the governor and the Legislature. It has chapters in Milwaukee, Madison, Northeast Wisconsin, Central Wisconsin, the Lake Superior region and Western Wisconsin.
