UW-Milwaukee: Economist, television personality Austan Goolsbee to visit UWM

MILWAUKEE – Austan Goolsbee, the Robert P. Gwinn Professor of Economics at The University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business and former Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers and Chief Economist for President Obama, will visit the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Thursday, April 18, 2013.

His free, 6 p.m. program is loosely titled “Standing still or standing up? Laying the groundwork for the U.S. and global recovery.” A frequent guest of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Real Time with Bill Maher, and Sunday morning news shows, he is known as one of the most entertaining economists of modern times.

Goolsbee earned both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in economics from Yale University. He went on to receive his Ph.D. in economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He was the youngest member of President Obama’s cabinet and had worked with the President as early as his 2004 U.S. Senate race. He left the administration in the summer of 2011 to return to his teaching position at the University of Chicago.

The program begins at 6:00 p.m. in UWM’s Zelazo Center, Room 250, located at 2419 East Kenwood Blvd., across the street from the student union. Admission is free but seating is limited; reservations will be taken at (414) 212-5168.

This event is sponsored by two student groups, the Society for Advanced Economic Studies and the UWM Student Association, along with the UW-Milwaukee Department of Economics.
