Madison, Wis. — Dr. Tom C.T. Yin was awarded the inaugural William and Christine Hartmann prize in Auditory Neuroscience, given by the Acoustical Society of America at its recent meeting in Montreal.

Yin, professor of neuroscience at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, was recognized for his research linking auditory physiology with auditory perception or behavior in humans or other animals. Yin’s research seeks to understand the neural mechanisms of binaural hearing or how the brain combines information from the two ears to localize the source of a sound and improve our hearing in noisy environments.

Yin, a UW faculty member since 1977, currently serves as interim chairman of the newly formed Department of Neurosciences. He has won the Chancellor’s Award for his teaching and is the director of the interdisciplinary Neuroscience Training Program.
