UpFront: New chancellor looks for UW to be engine for state’s economy

Rebecca Blank, UW-Madison’s new chancellor and the former U.S. commerce secretary, says one of her top priorities is ensuring UW remains central to the state’s economic growth.

“We are working hard to do a better job of encouraging entrepreneurship [among students and faculty], helping them bring ideas from the lab to the marketplace, and working in collaboration with places like UW-Milwaukee and with the private sector and public sector to create … an attractive environment for businesses to come in and to grow,” Blank said on “UpFront with Mike Gousha,” produced in partnership with WisPolitics.com.

She also pledged to keep in-state undergraduate tuition affordable, but said out-of-state tuition rates should be set by the national market.
