August 24th Motorcycle Ride to Benefit Waukesha C.A.R.E. Center

Waukesha, WI – Quaker Steak and Lube is sponsoring the third annual “Ride Because You C.A.R.E.” event on Saturday, August 24th at 9:00 am starting at Hal’s Harley Davidson, 1925 S Moorland Rd. About 100 motorcyclists will kickoff the event with a scenic ride through southern Waukesha County. The fully escorted ride is expected to last about an hour before reaching its destination at Quaker Steak & Lube, 4900 S. Moorland Road at 12:30pm. The New Berlin family restaurant is donating refreshments and food for The C.A.R.E ride participants, and live music is being donated by the band Four on the Floor. All proceeds raised from the event will go to benefit The C.A.R.E. Center (Child Advocacy Resource and Empowerment Center) in its efforts to help children who are victims of abuse. Non-riders are encouraged to join in the festivities at 12:30 too!

In addition to giving children of abuse a safe harbor, the center uses victim-friendly investigative techniques that keep kids out of the courtroom. In 2012, based on The C.A.R.E. Center’s advanced protocols 91% of children who received a forensic interview, and whose case was prosecuted by the District Attorney’s office, did not have to testify in court. Since its inception in 2006, the center has worked with over 1900 children. “We care about riders who care,” says Scott Acker, owner of Quaker Steak & Lube, “and their support will help The C.A.R.E Center serve children who need protection.”

“Court can be scary for kids, especially victims of abuse,” says Brad Schimel, Waukesha district attorney and C.A.R.E. spokesman. “Keeping them out of the court and off the witness stand provides them with the safety and comfort any kid deserves.”

Schimel will play bass guitar and sing with his classic rock group, Four on the Floor at the event. “Yes, I do sing, and I cannot think of a better reason to do it than to help these kids,” says Schimel.

In addition to Schimel’s vocal talent, the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department is coordinating the event and will have several officers riding to make this non-stop ride the “safest ride in Waukesha County.” Pre-register at http://www.fswaukesha.org/ or register on the day of starting at 9:00 am at Hal’s Harley Davidson at 1925 S. Moorland Road in New Berlin.
