StageQ, Inc. is pleased to announce that Audrey Lauren Wax will join
the theater company as the new Artistic Director, effective September
1. Audrey Lauren Wax has a wealth of theater experience, having spent
the last three years as a Theatre Arts Instructor at Edgewood
College. She has been instrumental in building the Edgewood theater
program. She previously worked as the Artistic Director for Morgue
Theatre and Sixth Street Productions in Idaho and Washington State.

Founded in 2000 by Thomas McClurg, and led by Tara Ayres since 2005,
StageQ’s mission is to present exhilarating, entertaining, and
challenging queer theater that builds community and encourages
positive social change in the process. Audrey has demonstrated her
commitment to queer arts by co-writing and directing last summer’s
“Conceal & Carry: Queers Exposed,” which debuted at Broom Street
Theater, and by working with humanitarian playwright Eve Ensler on
such productions as “The Good Body” and “The Vagina Monologues.” “I
am excited to start a new artistic challenge with StageQ and I look
forward to working with the company to further develop their already
successful seasons and community outreach. I am fortunate and
honored to be joining such a respected team of individuals.”

As StageQ’s new Artistic Director, Audrey will chair the Artistic
Committee and oversee the play selection for each new season. She
will also oversee the company’s administrative functions, thereby
serving as its de facto Executive Director. “I am ecstatic to work
with the Artistic Committee, as well as listen to our supportive
Madison community on implementing well-rounded and thought-provoking
seasons.”

From outgoing Artistic Director Tara Ayres: “I am pleased to be
leaving StageQ in such capable hands. Between Audrey’s experience and
enthusiasm, and the dedication and vision of the StageQ Board of
Directors, I am confident that StageQ will continue to thrive and
grow.”

The StageQ Board is deeply grateful to Tara for her eight years of
visionary leadership and devotion … and excited by the energy and
sense of possibility that Audrey brings to StageQ.
