DE PERE, WIS: St. Norbert College senior Steven Garza has been selected as White House intern for Spring 2013, where he is working in the Office of the Chief of Staff. Garza began his internship in January and will continue through spring semester.

Garza, a native of La Crosse, Wis., is an international studies and political science double major at St. Norbert. He was recently one of only 12 in the country named an American Political Science Association (APSA) Minority Fellow, a distinction based on the student’s undergraduate course work, grade point average (GPA), graduate record examination (GRE) scores, extracurricular activities, and recommendations from political science faculty.

Garza was also awarded a McNair Scholarship, which focuses on preparing first-generation, low-income and racially underrepresented students for graduate school and the attainment of doctorate degrees. Garza also served as the Connections Tutoring Program coordinator at St. Norbert. The program focuses on closing the educational achievement gap among underrepresented students in the public school system within the greater Green Bay community. On campus, Garza also co-founded the student organization called “La Alianza”, which was St. Norbert College’s first ever Latino-student organization.

Garza plans to continue his education and pursue a master’s degree in international relations after he graduates from St. Norbert College in May.

Garza can be reached for an interview by calling 608-792-3791 after 6 p.m. EST. If you would like to speak to one of his professors at St. Norbert College, contact mike.counter@snc.edu.
