DISCOVERIES INTERNATIONAL, STUDENT-RUN BUSINESS AT
ST. NORBERT COLLEGE, RAISES MONEY FOR CHARITY
DE PERE, WIS.: The mission each year is clear: learn how to run a business and raise money for charity. That’s what Discoveries International is all about. The nonprofit store is operated by St. Norbert College international business majors and is dedicated to importing fair-trade products primarily from developing nations. Proceeds received from the sale of these goods are reinvested in developing countries through charitable donation. This year, money raised will go to Esperanza International and the Seven Loaves Project.
The mission of Esperanza International is to free children and their families from poverty through initiatives that generate income, education and health, restoring self-worth and dignity to Dominican and Haitian families who have lost hope. For more information, go to http://esperanza.org/home/.
The Seven Loaves Project is a small charity based in Green Bay, Wis. When J.R. Schoenfeld of Chives Restaurant traveled to Rwanda, he was confronted with a country still recovering from a terrible genocide. Schoenfeld was so inspired to bring hope to Rwanda in the form of bread, he and his team traveled to Rwanda to install ovens and provide resources and training. Schoenfeld also wanted to create a sustainable lifestyle for villagers.
