Midwest Truck Tour Turns To Tomah

Series Makes Inaugural Trek To Veterans Raceway Park

by Gregg Paul

The next event for the Scag Power Equipment Midwest Truck Tour is Friday May 31st at Veterans Raceway Park in Tomah, Wisconsin. It marks the first time the Tour has come to the recently refurbished speedway. The former Excalibur Motorsports Speedway was purchased by Mike and Jon Inglett and rechristened Veterans Raceway Park. Both Ingletts are military veterans and looked to honor all veterans with their facility.

The track was originally a quarter mile oval when it was built as the Tomah-Sparta Speedway in 1964. Under the Excalibur Motorsports Speedway banner, then owner Dave Thompson redesigned the course into its present 3/8 mile configuration.

The Ingletts are making many new improvements to the facility. They have added new asphalt in the turns to widen the track by eight feet. A new pit area is being constructed with concrete slab pit stalls being planned for the future. There are many new additions to the speedway including concession stands, ticket booths, registration stand, and new offices for the track.

“John and Mike have been working very hard to get everything completed at the track and the weather hasn’t done them any favors. I just have to give them a lot of credit for doing their best and putting their heart and soul into the facility so the fans from Tomah can get back to racing locally. The Trucks will fit in well and put on a great show, and it will be a nice test for the Tour when we arrive in August,” said ARCAMT VP, Steve Einhaus.

This will be the second event in 2013 for the Midwest Truck Tour. Jerry Wood captured the checkered flag at Madison International Speedway a couple weeks ago and hopes to make it two-for-two heading into Friday night.

The pit gates open at 3pm with tech getting underway at 3:30pm. Practice for the SCAG Power Equipment Midwest Truck Tour begins at 4:30 with qualifying slated for 6:15pm. Racing gets underway at 7:30pm. The Midwest Trucks will race for 50 laps on the 3/8 mile oval.

Veterans Raceway Park is located at 11215 Flagstaff Road Tomah, WI
