ELKHART LAKE, Wis., (May 7, 2013) – You know that spring has arrived when the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA) starts their engines for the annual Spring Vintage Weekend at Road America, May 17-19. With radical elevation changes, tree-lined straights and spring flowers blooming at every turn; Road America’s four spectacular miles are in a one-of-a-kind class with racers the world over, while photographers view it as a paradise for split-second shutters and scenic backgrounds. Whatever your desire, the SVRA Spring Vintage Weekend serves it up package style. Come witness the power, pageantry and picturesque landscapes of Road America, a track that is every bit as impressive as the cars that will compete. Make no mistake about it, the SVRA Spring Vintage Weekend offers tightly regulated, wheel-to-wheel racing, with a lineup that includes over 150 participants that are expected to race in ten separate groups; from production and grand touring cars – to sports racers, prototypes and formula cars. The weekend also includes a special 50th Anniversary Porsche 911 tribute race and all sorts of on-track and off-track activities with fun for families and racing enthusiasts alike.

“There’s something about such an early season event that makes it special,” said George Bruggenthies, Road America’s president and general manager. “Maybe it’s the crisp spring air, or the excitement of watching historic race cars after a long winter’s layoff, or maybe just the socializing and camaraderie, because everyone can get up close to the cars and drivers at vintage races. It’s a lot of fun for everyone and a great way to kick-off the season.”

As part of its commitment to honoring America’s heroes, Road America will also provide free admission to all active, reserve-duty military and veterans with ID on Saturday, May 18, Armed Forces Day, during the Spring Vintage Races at Road America.

“This is a small gesture of appreciation for the women and men who have given so much to defend our liberty and freedom and continues Road America’s long-standing commitment to our nation’s active and retired military,” Bruggenthies added. “We hope everyone has a great time during the Spring Vintage Weekend.”

During the Spring Vintage Weekend, Road America’s park-like setting will provide fantastic views of these rare vintage vehicles as they race throughout the undulating circuit while its fan-friendly paddock allows spectators to get close to the cars and talk to the racers. Gates will open to the public each day at 7:00 a.m. Advanced admission until May 8 is $40 for the 3-day weekend, $10 Friday, $20 Saturday and $20 Sunday. Kids 12 and under are always free with a paying adult. All races will run rain or shine. A tentative event schedule is available online at http://www.roadamerica.com
