MILWAUKEE, Wis. (June 26, 2013) — The national law firm of Quarles & Brady LLP announced that Kathryn M. Buono, a partner in the firm’s Milwaukee office, and her husband, John Buono, were named Honorary Chairs of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s 15th Annual Breath of Life Gala, which is being sponsored by Quarles & Brady this year. From now until October 19, 2013, they will work to raise $265,000 to fight cystic fibrosis (“CF”).

The Quarles and Brady Breath of Life Gala brings together heroes to change the future of cystic fibrosis.

Net proceeds from the event go toward supporting the mission of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation: to assure the development of the means to cure and control CF and to improve the quality of life for those with the disease. The couple was introduced to the CF Foundation approximately ten years ago, motivated by two separate colleagues who have sons born with CF. The event will be held on October 19, 2013, at the River Club of Mequon. Over 350 guests from the Milwaukee and Chicago area business communities are expected. “Fundraising is especially difficult in our current economy, but the Breath of Life Gala grows every single year,” said Greg Myers, Quarles and Brady Breath of Life Gala Chairperson. “The only explanation is the tremendous hope that has resulted from such thrilling medical advances, and the immense support that we receive from the Milwaukee community.”

“We hope that our work with the CF Foundation will allow those with CF to live past their current life expectancy of 37 years,” said Kathie Buono, Quarles and Brady Breath of Life Gala Honorary Chairperson.

Buono is a member of the firm’s Corporate Services Practice Group. Previously, she served as a member of the firm’s Executive Committee and both as National Chair of the Corporate Services Group and as Leader of its M&A Team. She focuses her practice in the areas of mergers and acquisitions and private equity investments, in addition to general corporate work. In 2012, Buono was named Best Lawyers’ Milwaukee Leveraged Buyouts and Private Equity Law Lawyer of the Year. She has been listed consistently in Chambers USA ® since 2004, in Best Lawyers in America® since 2007, and Wisconsin Super Lawyers® since 2005 for Corporate/M&A.

In addition to her work with the CF Foundation, she is a member of the M7 Venture Debt Advisory Board, the Marquette Law Alumni Board, and the Journey House Charitable Foundation Board. She received her law degree from Marquette University Law School and her undergraduate degree from the University of Dayton.

About The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation
The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is the world’s leader in the search for a cure for cystic fibrosis. The Foundation funds more CF research than any other organization, and nearly every CF drug available today was made possible because of Foundation support. Based in Bethesda, Md., the Foundation also supports and accredits a national care center network that has been recognized by the National Institutes of Health as a model of care for a chronic disease. The CF Foundation is a donor-supported nonprofit organization.
