PricewaterhouseCoopers: Donates more than $1.1 million to Wisconsin School of Business accounting program

Fundraising Campaign Completed for the school’s Accounting Department; The contribution to fund “PwC Professor in Accounting,” Professor Terry Warfield named as recipient.

NEW YORK, March 12, 2013—PwC US, along with a group of PwC partners and staff, is contributing more than $1.1 million over five years to the Wisconsin School of Business Accounting & Information Systems Department at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The gift will fund “PwC’s Professor in Accounting” and the “Future is Now,” a program that introduces students to the various career paths and possibilities offered by a career in accounting. The gift will also provide funds to support a professional competency program for accounting students. Nearly fifty PwC partners (active and retired) and staff, many alumni, participated in this fundraising campaign.

In conjunction with this initiative, Professor Terry Warfield, chair of Accounting & Information Systems Department, is being named as the new “PwC Professor in Accounting.” PwC will celebrate this commitment at the “Partnering for the Future” event for PwC, faculty, and students on Tuesday, March 12, 2013. The event will be held at 4 p.m. at the Wisconsin School of Business. A reception and celebratory dinner with PwC partners and the Wisconsin School of Business faculty will follow.

“We are thrilled to present the Wisconsin School of Business with the funding to support their accomplished accounting department and to recognize the contributions Professor Warfield has made to the university,” said Ray Wilson, PwC Firm Relationship Partner, University of Wisconsin-Madison. “With this donation, we are investing not only in the students but in the future of the accounting profession. I’m grateful to the PwC partners and staff who made this campaign successful.”

Professor Warfield added: “I am honored to be recognized with the PwC professorship. The professorship and this gift from PwC reinforce the already strong bonds that the Wisconsin School of Business and Accounting Department have with PwC.”

PwC has supported colleges and universities — and the students they educate — with more than $49 million in funding since 2008. The funds have been used for a variety of curriculum enrichment initiatives, faculty learning programs and other faculty and student support. The gift to the Wisconsin School of Business will enable accounting students at the school to receive more personalized instruction in their introductory classes.
