Platypus Technologies: Introduces a new, direct-read hydrogen sulfide dosimeter

Madison, WI – (September 4, 2013), Platypus Technologies LLC announced today the release of the CLEARSENSE™ H2S dosimeter, the first commercial sensor based on the company’s proprietary liquid crystal sensing technology.

The CLEARSENSE™ H2S dosimeter is designed to monitor hydrogen sulfide levels in environments where there is a significant risk of chronic hydrogen sulfide exposure. These environments include oil and gas wells, petroleum refineries, sewage treatment plants, farms with manure pits, kraft paper mills, and chemical plants. Hydrogen sulfide exposure is potentially lethal, and even at low levels, individuals chronically exposed can develop serious respiratory, neurological and dermatological problems.

The lightweight, wearable CLEARSENSE™ dosimeters are unique in that they provide direct readout of cumulative H2S doses without requiring calibration or laboratory analysis. Cumulative exposures have for years been measured using sampling tube devices, which require a special pump, a trained operator, and the cost and week-long delay of shipping to certified laboratories for analysis. CLEARSENSE™ users simply clip the dosimeter to clothing during the work shift; no pump is needed. Exposure is then read on site, using either the CLEARSENSE™ Pocket Viewer, which requires no electrical power, or the Digital Reader, which downloads exposure data to a computer using the included CLEARSENSE™ software.

CLEARSENSE™ sensors are available direct from Platypus Technologies and through distribution partner SKC Inc., PA.
