Building Featured on American-Architects.com
(WEST BEND, WI) The Museum of Wisconsin Art (MOWA) in West Bend, Wisconsin is proud to announce that the new MOWA building is currently being featured as the “Building of the Week” for the 2013 50×50 – 50 States in 50 Weeks Series on American-Architects.com, part of the worldwide platform of World-Architects.com.

Designed by Jim Shields, FAIA, Project Lead Designer at HGA Architects and Engineers (HGA), the new building, articulated in a Contemporary Modern style, takes on the triangular shape of the site—which was created by the Milwaukee River—as its major form. The 31-square-foot, two-level Museum features 12,000-square-feet of gallery space, in addition to an atrium, a gift shop, two education studios, administrative offices, a conference room, an archives area and an innovative, visible storage area—the only one of its kind in an art museum in Wisconsin. Using a relatively new mechanical system called “displacement ventilation” in the galleries, the new MOWA building is more energy efficient and safe for art than typical systems.

The new MOWA building opened to the public in April 2013, welcoming over 5,000 people to the Museum throughout the opening weekend. Originally established in 1961 as the West Bend Gallery of Fine Arts, the new MOWA is one of the top regional art museums in the country.
